Body Sculpting

A healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise are among the most common recommendations for reducing body fat. However, changes in diet and increased physical activity may prove ineffective for reducing and removing stubborn pockets of body fat. Innovations in cosmetic dermatology and body sculpting allow our Gainesville dermatologists to allow their patients to target and destroy fat cells without invasive surgery.

What Is Body Sculpting?

Body contouring, or non-surgical fat removal, comprises several non-invasive cosmetic procedures for removing fat to contour and shape body areas. The majority of non-surgical body sculpting treatments use one of three principles — cryolipolysis, radiofrequency lipolysis, and radiofrequency infrared lipolysis — to selectively break down fat cells and reduce the size of fat deposits, which are located beneath the skin and above the muscle.

CoolSculpting® is a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment that safely targets and reduces fat cells in the body through cryolipolysis, or fat freezing. This procedure cools body fat to break down fat cells, reducing body fat without damaging other tissues. The frozen fat cells are eventually flushed out of the body through the lymphatic system for permanent, contoured results. Target areas for CoolSculpting® include the abdomen, the thighs, the flanks, the arms, the back, underneath the buttocks, and the area under the chin.

CoolSculpting® treatments involve no anesthesia, needles, or scalpels, so there is no scarring. Additionally, the noninvasive nature of CoolSculpting® means no damage to surrounding nerves, skin, or muscles and no lengthy recovery. Best of all, results from treatment with CoolSculpting® are permanent, so patients can enjoy their enhanced figures for years to come. CoolSculpting® is suitable for most patients, particularly those with visible subcutaneous fat budges, sound health of body and mind, and realistic expectations.

UltraShape® is a safe, non-surgical, FDA-approved procedure that uses targeted ultrasound technology to safely eliminate fat cells in the abdomen, the flanks, the thighs, and the buttocks. Body sculpting with UltraShape® is performed using either monopolar radiofrequency devices or multipolar radiofrequency devices —  energy is passed from a single electrode into the tissues and directed to a return pad within another region of the body or two or more electrodes within the same handpiece are positioned at different points on the skin.

After undergoing treatments with UltraShape®, patients are left with a smoother, more contoured body, with results that often are seen as soon as two weeks after the first treatment. traShape® has the highest fat layer thickness reduction of any non-invasive device on the market, resulting in a 32% reduction in the treated area. And there's no downtime for recovery after treatments! Where does the fat go? Following UltraShape® treatment, the body breaks down the destroyed fat cells. Once processed by the liver, the waste is eliminated naturally.

EMSCULPT® is the first non-invasive body shaping treatment combining two different energy sources for simultaneous fat removal and muscle building. EMSCULPT NEO® uses a unique combination of radiofrequency heating and HIFEM+ energy in a single 30-minute procedure to reduce subcutaneous body fat and tone the muscles, all with the benefits of a simple, relatively quick treatment, with no downtime. EMSCULPT® can be applied over the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms, and calves.

Protocol for treatment with EMSCULPT® usually comprises 30-minute treatments performed during four separate appointments, scheduled 5–10 days apart. With EMSCULPT®, results are real! Each patient’s results may vary, but the most significant results can be seen 3 months following the last treatment. If you can benefit from less fat and more muscle, then our EMSCULPT® may be a great fit for you! Is Non-Surgical Body Sculpting Safe?

Non-surgical body sculpting through the use of EMSCULPT®, CoolSculpting®, , and UltraShape® is a minimally-invasive treatment for stubborn fat cells. These FDA-approved cosmetic treatments provide safe and effective results with few side effects and a brief recovery time. To ensure optimal procedural results and patient health, patients must provide a detailed health history to our body contouring technicians.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Body Sculpting?

Most patients who are in good health are candidates for body sculpting treatments. Each of our body contouring devices works best for patients with a body mass index (BMI) ranging from 18.5 to 25. Patients who may be unsuitable for body sculpting include, but are not limited to, those with certain diseases and medical conditions which may worsen with body treatment; patients with anticoagulative conditions; patients who are prone to developing blood clots; patients with photosensitivity (for procedures which include light therapy); and patients who are pregnant. Are Results Of Body Sculpting Permanent?

Non-surgical fat removal procedures provide patients with permanent results by identifying, breaking down, and removing stubborn pockets of fat tissues within the body. The body naturally eliminates the treated fat cells — as such, results typically appear gradually in one to two weeks following the procedure. Once achieved, final results are permanent and can be maintained through proper nutrition, an active and healthy lifestyle, and other dermatologist recommendations. Multiple procedures are typically required with each type of body contouring procedure for patients to achieve their desired results.

Body Sculpting Vs. Liposuction

Body sculpting through non-surgical treatment poses fewer treatment risks to patients than liposuction and other forms of surgical fat removal — patients who undergo fat freezing and laser fat removal, among other non-surgical procedures, avoid the risks associated with general anesthesia, infection, fluid accumulation, and cardiac complications, among other surgical risks.

Non-surgical fat removal also tends to be less costly than liposuction procedures and requires less recovery time than a surgical fat removal treatment. However, non-surgical techniques are the optimal choice for patients who seek to reshape, make firm, and contour areas of the body. Surgical body sculpting is intended for large-scale removal of fat tissue but typically does not include the shaping benefits associated with non-surgical options.
