What Are Laser Treatments?

Laser stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. Lasers comprise a single-wavelength (a single color of light) source of high-energy light focused on a specific area to transmit the light onto a small area to achieve the desired treatment effects. Laser treatments use light energy to target very specific skin areas, remediating visible surface defects and skin problems. Because the light energy from the skin laser is so precise, it targets damaged skin cells while preserving healthy cells both in and around the treatment area. Along with protecting healthy skin cells, cosmetic laser procedures stimulate natural collagen production in the skin.

Lasers exist in two primary types: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers vaporize the top layers of damaged skin, while non-ablative lasers work deeper without removing or damaging the top skin layers. As a result, patients who receive treatments with non-ablative lasers do not experience downtime after underdoing a cosmetic treatment using only non-ablative laser technology. Lasers work in cosmetic procedures through selective photothermolysis, wherein they modulate the frequency of light to produce heat in the areas that will be destroyed. To achieve this, the cosmetic laser light beam's wavelength must correspond to the target issue's color, whether it’s brown spots, red-colored capillaries, or another skin condition.

What Skin Conditions Can Lasers Treat?

Our collagen production decreases as we age, which can cause different skin issues, including wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin, among other visible signs of aging. If you seek to remediate the evidence of certain skin issues, then it’s likely there is a laser skin treatment ideal for your needs. Electrolysis

Electrolysis treatment offers permanent hair removal for the face and body. This form of permanent hair removal is FDA-approved and used worldwide for removing hair from the upper lip, chin, and bikini line, among other treatment areas. Electrolysis devices destroy the growth of unwanted hair at the center of each hair using chemical or heat energy. Electrolysis hair removal devices can be used to target unwanted hairs on virtually any area of the face or body, including the eyebrows, face, abdomen, thighs, breasts, arms, and legs, among other treatment areas, and is an excellent option for those who are not eligible for laser hair removal. Additionally, this treatment is ideal for patients who want to permanently remove hair from a specific area. Our electrologist can treat all body areas of patients with any range of hair colors and skin types.

Laser Tattoo Removal

There are various options for removing unwanted tattoos from the skin. Unlike other methods of tattoo removal, such as dermabrasion, chemical peels, or surgical excision of the tattoos, laser tattoo removal is a non-invasive procedure with permanent results. This process, however, takes multiple appointments with a dermatologist, depending on the type and color of the tattoo ink. The speed of your tattoo removal will depend on several factors, from your skin type to the size, color, and placement of the unwanted tattoo. Other factors that might affect your treatment include your skin type, tattoo colors, body location, the amount of ink, tattoo layering, and any pre-existing scarring on or under the tattoo. Tattoo removal using a skin laser is widely considered one of the safest options for removing unwanted tattoos offering a reduced risk of infection.

VBeam® Laser

VBeam® is a non-invasive, advanced dermatology tool that addresses common, chronic skin problems and abnormalities in a highly targeted and painless manner with visible results in as little as 1-3 sessions. This pulsed-dye laser (PDL) is often referred to as a vascular laser, as it excels at treating and remediating broken capillaries, rosacea, port wine stains, spider veins, strawberry hemangiomas, and other conditions, making it an excellent laser for redness, broken capillary treatment, and a viable option for birthmark removal. VBeam® treatments can also improve the appearance of superficial pigmentation discoloration, like photodamage, sun spots, freckles, stretch marks, acne scars, psoriasis, and wrinkles. This versatile skin laser is used to quicken the healing of post-treatment bruising following cosmetic and surgical procedures.

Fraxel® Treatments

Fraxel® is a revolutionary laser skin resurfacing treatment that permanently removes skin imperfections without the side effects or significant downtime commonly required following other, more invasive laser procedures. The Fraxel® laser treats a variety of common skin issues, such as pigmentation, laxity, fine lines, wrinkles, melasma, and acne scarring, among other skin problems, and it can be used to address skin concerns located on the face, neck, chest, hands, and legs, although it may be used in other areas of the body as well. Fraxel® uses two lasers with different wavelengths (1550 and 1927). During this laser resurfacing procedure, one laser focuses on remediating pigmentation and photodamage located on the top layer of the skin, while the other laser penetrates the skin deeper to target wrinkles, texture issues, and acne scarring.
