What Is JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC?

JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ is a dermal filler injected into facial tissue with moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the "parentheses lines" around the nose and mouth. JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC is designed to temporarily correct facial wrinkles for a smoother appearance to the face for adults over the age of 21.

In addition, it is designed to restore the appearance of natural-looking contours in the mid-to-lower face regions. Over time, the cheeks, areas around the nose, the chin, and the jawline lose volume and definition, resulting in a sunken, fallen, and wrinkled appearance. This midface treatment is a hyaluronic acid filler or HA filler and provides a versatile treatment option for patients seeking a discreet treatment offering noticeable, natural-looking results that can last up to 18 months. What Does JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ Treat?

VOLLURE™ delivers subtle, soft-looking volume, making it well-suited for locations of the face, such as in nasolabial folds, or smile lines, which develop around the nose and extend to the mouth. This filler can also help reduce the appearance of unflattering shadows on the face, such as dark circles beneath the eyes.

Specially formulated to address the midface region, JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC penetrates the skin deeper than other fillers, within the mid-to-deep dermis, for visible improvements to moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. How Does JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC Work?

Over time and as we age, wrinkles and fine lines develop on our face, and nasolabial folds can become more pronounced and visible. JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC is designed to temporarily add noticeable volume to facial wrinkles and folds for a smoother appearance to the face. JUVÉDERM® fillers are made with high-gauge — small and fine-tipped — needles with patented VYCROSS® technology, which helps ensure a smooth and consistent gel application. The “XC” in JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC refers to lidocaine, a numbing agent that briefly desensitizes the treated areas to reduce discomfort or pain. VYCROSS® holds the hyaluronic acid molecules in an ultra-fine gel, keeping it intact within the skin for longer than other cosmetic fillers

This provides patients with results for up to a year and a half. This technology allows hyaluronic acid to fill fine lines and wrinkles while acting cohesively with the skin, producing minimal swelling and a shorter overall recovery time. JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC fills and lifts flattened, sunken, and wrinkled skin on the face to restore them to their former positions and features. HA fillers are injected just below the skin in critical areas of the midface. Our physician then uses an artistic eye to mold the cheek filler to recreate a natural and symmetrical look. Compared to cosmetic facial surgery, these non-surgical injections are less invasive. Hyaluronic acid (the primary ingredient in the filler gel) is a complex sugar that occurs naturally in the body, so it’s perfectly safe for most patients.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Dermal Fillers?

Virtually all adults over 21 who seek to improve the appearance of moderate-to-severe wrinkles, folds, and other aging signs in the facial region are great candidates for facial injections with JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC. Among the numerous benefits of wrinkle treatment with JUVÉDERM® is its ability to be individualized to each patient, with respect to their unique aesthetic goals, skin needs, and overall treatment plan, among other considerations. This facial filler is safe of any skin tone and type, making it versatile and highly accessible for patients with various needs and goals. The best way to confirm you are a candidate for treatment is to schedule a consultation with our skin specialists. However, you may not be a good candidate if you have any of the following.

  • Severe allergies with a history of anaphylaxis
  • Presence of multiple severe allergies
  • History of allergies to lidocaine or Gram-positive bacterial proteins

Are Facial Fillers Painful?

During the procedure, patients may experience some minor discomfort during and after the injection treatment, though this is rare due to the topical anesthetic cream and the numbing agent, lidocaine, which is mixed into the filler to reduce injection site pain. Most patients generally experience minimal-to-no discomfort during injections with JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC. For more information about this treatment, contact us.

How Long Does VOLLURE™ XC Last?

Results following injection with VOLLURE™ XC are temporary yet long-lasting. Results appear right away, improving over time and typically enduring for up to 18 months after injection. Over time, the formula is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body. Once patients notice the effects of their treatment wearing off, they may schedule follow-up injection appointments to maintain optimal corrections. With regular touch-up injections, less material is generally needed to maintain the results of the filler.

How Many JUVÉDERM® Treatments Will I Need?

In most patients, only one treatment is required to achieve optimal mid face lift and fill. However, the resulting correction is temporary, and the product will break down and become absorbed by the body over time. Patients’ desired results can be maintained with additional, regularly scheduled appointments. Because of its non-invasive nature and the natural-looking results it provides, this treatment can either be used as a standalone treatment or may be combined with other face wrinkle treatments, such as other hyaluronic acid facial injections, other formulations of cosmetic injectables and other types of cosmetic facial treatments to achieve the patient’s desired overall results. Potential JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC Side Effects

Before your appointment, your provider will review your full medical history and ask you questions regarding any health concerns to determine whether or not there are any potential contraindications to the recommended treatment. If you have severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis; a known history or presence of multiple severe allergies; or a known history of allergies to lidocaine or Gram-positive bacterial proteins, you may not be a candidate for treatment with JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC.

Though rare, the most common side effects include facial skin firmness, swelling, tenderness to touch, lumps/bumps, redness, pain, bruising, itching, and discoloration at the injection site. These side effects were usually mild-to-moderate, causing little-to-some discomfort and impact on daily activities, and lasted up to 14 days or less. However, many patients experience no significant side effects following their treatment.

How To Prepare For Your Appointment

Before your appointment, you will be provided with specific instructions on how to prepare for treatment with JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC. Prior to the appointment, patients must remove all makeup, or the provider will help remove it. Once the makeup is removed, the skin is then prepared with a topical antiseptic medication used to prevent the introduction of bacteria into the skin during the injections.

The treatment itself is generally brief, and depending on the addressed areas and the number of syringes of product used, the injections may take 15–20 minutes or more. Contact Gainesville Dermatology Aesthetic Center for additional information about preparation protocols and what to expect during treatments with hyaluronic acid fillers.

JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC Aftercare

In addition to pre-treatment instructions, patients will be provided with aftercare instructions for caring for their skin and their treated area(s) prior to their treatment day. Following the use of hyaluronic acid injections for wrinkles, patients may experience some degree of redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. Patients can treat their symptoms with an ice pack but should wait until several hours after surgery for the injection site to heal. Baby aspirin, fish oil, and blood thinners should also be avoided for several days to avoid making the bruising worse. If the side effects seem unusual, patients should promptly contact their medical provider for a medical review.
