What Is JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC?

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus is an injectable hyaluronic acid dermal filler designed for injection in facial skin to correct moderate-to-severe wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and depressed or sunken areas of the cheeks, for improvements in the appearance of volume and lift. This JUVÉDERM® formulation uses hyaluronic acid in a thicker consistency to address a lack or loss of volume resulting in wrinkles and folds in the facial skin. Compared with other fillers, Ultra Plus XC uses a thicker consistency that better holds shape while offering a smooth, natural result. This face filler adds volume to the face while delicately smoothing deep lines around the mouth, nose, and cheeks.

As we age, we lose collagen, elastin, and other essential, natural-occurring proteins that comprise the scaffolding of our facial structures. This hyaluronic acid filler or HA filler provides a versatile treatment for patients seeking a discreet treatment offering noticeable, natural-looking results that can last up to one year with optimal treatment. What Is JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC Used For?

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is an injectable gel filler that temporarily corrects wrinkles and folds. This filler delivers subtle, natural-looking volume to the face, making it a versatile product well-suited to the areas around the mouth, nose, and cheeks. At Gainesville Dermatology Aesthetic Center, we provide our patients with a naturally refreshed appearance with visible improvements that best enhance each patient’s natural aesthetic qualities and goals for treatment.

As with each cosmetic filler in the JUVÉDERM® line, JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is an FDA-approved, non-surgical, and non-invasive cosmetic treatment ideal for patients who want to enhance their appearance with a natural, innovative filler that produces noticeable, temporary results. If the natural aging process, lifestyle habits, or any other factors create a desire for greater volume and youthful definition in your face, Ultra Plus XC can be safely used to create the perfectly voluminous appearance you desire

How Does JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC Work?

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC uses the power of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body, to instantly smooth away fine lines and wrinkles in the face. In its natural form, hyaluronic acid is a sugar in the skin and joints. JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC uses synthetic, biodegradable versions of these naturally occurring sugars to boost volume and collagen production. JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC replaces hyaluronic acid lost from age and sun damage, smoothing away the appearance of facial wrinkles and folds.

In addition to hyaluronic acid, this dermal filler contains water, transforming the liquid formulation into a gel texture, creating volume. When injected into the skin, it helps volumize the tissues, reducing the appearance of depressions and fine lines. Facial wrinkles are temporarily filled in, giving the patient a smoother appearance. The “XC” in JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC indicates that the formula includes 0.3% lidocaine, designed to help prevent patients from experiencing pain during their procedure. This may save time, as a topical numbing agent is not required during injections.

Who Is A Good Candidate For JUVÉDERM® Fillers?

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is widely considered safe for most individuals when used as directed. Ultra Plus XC injectable gel is used for injection into the facial tissue to correct moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, in patients over 18. The best way to determine your candidacy for treatment with JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is to contact Gainesville Dermatology Aesthetic Center to schedule an appointment.

Among the benefits of undergoing treatment with JUVÉDERM® fillers are the convenience of a relatively quick procedure and no requirement for downtime following injections. Additionally, the results are immediate and can last up to 1 year following an injection. For additional information about JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC, contact our office.

Does JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC Hurt?

While any injection into the skin may be painful, there are ways to mitigate this pain. The majority of our patients who receive JUVÉDERM® injections report experiencing little-to-no pain. While the procedure isn’t typically painful, it’s possible to feel minimal pain in the treated area within a day after the injections. Little preparation and aftercare are required for each injection. The duration of the procedure will depend on the number of injections you will receive, among other factors.

The procedure can take up to an hour. Because the line of JUVÉDERM® fillers contains lidocaine, treatments with JUVÉDERM® don’t typically require the use of a topical anesthetic on the skin before the injection. Your provider may cleanse your skin and inject the product into the targeted areas. While you may not feel pain, you may experience a tingling sensation and slight pressure as the product is injected. You can resume your regular schedule right after the procedure. However, avoid strenuous activity, sun exposure, and alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours after the procedure.

How Long Does JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC Last?

As with other JUVÉDERM® products, you may see noticeable results to your skin almost immediately after your treatment. These results can last up to 1 year, though this timeframe can vary from patient to patient. In general, most hyaluronic acid fillers last 6 months up to 1 year. You will require follow-up treatments from Gainesville Dermatology Aesthetic Center to maintain your desired results. Over time, the formula is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body. Once you begin to notice the effects of their treatment wearing off, or sooner, you may schedule additional follow-up injection appointments to maintain optimal corrections.

How Many JUVÉDERM® Treatments Will I Need?

In most patients, only one treatment may be required to achieve optimal mid-face lift and fill. However, the correction is temporary, and the product will break down and become absorbed by the body over time. Patients’ desired results can be maintained with additional, regularly scheduled appointments.

Because of its non-invasive nature and the natural-looking results it provides, this treatment can be used as a standalone treatment or combined with other face wrinkle treatments, such as other hyaluronic acid facial injections, other formulations of cosmetic injectables, and other types of cosmetic facial treatments to achieve the patient’s desired overall results. JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC Side Effects

Your provider will review your full medical history before your treatment to determine any potential contraindications to the recommended treatment. You may not be eligible for treatment with JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC if you have severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis, a history or presence of multiple severe allergies, or allergies to lidocaine or Gram-positive bacterial proteins. You should notify your provider if you have a history of cold sores prior to your treatment day.

In general, potential side effects are rare and side effects experienced are mild or moderate, with a short duration. The most common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site, such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching. Side effects are typically mild or moderate (uncomfortable) and may last for 30 days or less.

How To Prepare For Your Appointment

Before your appointment, you will be provided with specific instructions on preparing for treatment with JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC. In general, prior to the appointment, all makeup and products must be removed from the skin. Once the makeup is removed, the skin is then prepared with a topical antiseptic medication used to prevent the introduction of bacteria into the skin during the injections.

The treatment itself is generally brief taking 15–30 minutes or more, depending on the areas to be addressed and the number of syringes of product used. Contact us today for additional information about preparation protocols for this treatment and what to expect during your procedure with Ultra Plus XC.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC Aftercare

As with pre-treatment instructions, patients will be provided with face filler aftercare instructions, which include what to expect following their procedure and how to best care for the skin and treated area(s) following treatment. Patients may notice minor swelling or bruising at the injection site(s). These side effects usually dissipate about one week after treatment.

Your provider may recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, exposure to direct sunlight, exposure to heat, using saunas and hot tubs, and consuming alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours after treatment. Patients should avoid rubbing or putting pressure on the treated areas and consult their physician about resuming any regular medications.
