Tattoo Removal: A Safe, Effective Solution

Unwanted tattoos are a common occurrence. A tattoo that seemed cool a few years ago may grow tiresome, or may even become an embarrassment.

Fortunately, Gainesville Dermatology Aesthetic Center offers a non-invasive laser procedure for the permanent removal of unwanted tattoos. Using Candela’s Alex TriVantage, tattoos can be removed regardless of ink color or skin type.

The removal process works by producing short pulses of laser light that pass harmlessly through the top layers of the skin and are selectively absorbed by the tattoo pigment. This laser energy causes the tattoo pigment to fragment into smaller particles that are then naturally removed by the body. Tattoo removal at Gainesville Dermatology is safe, and generates minimal side effects.

If you have a tattoo that you’re embarrassed of or just plain sick of looking at, Gainesville Dermatology Aesthetic Center can help. Call 352-333-3223 to schedule a free removal consultation today.

Laser Hair Removal: Safe, Easy, and Long-Lasting

Laser Hair Removal is a gentle, effective method for the long-lasting removal of unwanted body hair. Gainesville Dermatology Aesthetic Center’s state-of-the-art system works by aiming concentrated beams of light at targeted hair follicles. The follicle absorbs the light, the hair is eliminated, and future hair growth is minimized or even prevented.
Other methods of hair removal are tedious, painful, and even damaging. Shaving requires constant maintenance and dries out the skin. And we all know how uncomfortable waxing is. These methods require either the continuous purchase of expensive shaving materials or regular salon visits, and both yield results which only last for a couple weeks.

Laser Hair Removal is safe and easy and that’s why so many Gainesville Dermatology clients are discovering it’s the perfect solution! Stop shaving and start living! If you are interested in finding out if Laser Hair Removal is right for you, call us for a free consultation at (352) 333-3223.

The Science Behind UltraShape®

UltraShape has created a lot of buzz recently as use of the treatment has increased across the United States. In the simplest terms, UltraShape is the only FDA-approved, ultrasound based non-invasive procedure that destroys fat cells and helps to eliminate stubborn fat permanently. To many people, this description sounds too good to be true. So, what exactly is the scientific process behind the UltraShape treatment and how does it differ from other fat-reduction procedures? The team here at Gainesville Dermatology Aesthetic Center is here to break it down for you!

Unlike liposuction, UltraShape is non-surgical and leaves no visible signs of treatment. And unlike other procedures that use heat or freeze fat cells, UltraShape is virtually painless and involves zero downtime. The procedure is best used on those who have a small to moderate amount of fat to lose in specific, stubborn areas, rather than for those who are looking to drop large amounts of body weight. For best results, experts recommend three UltraShape treatments each spaced two weeks apart.

During treatment, a comfortable belt will be wrapped around the treatment area and a gel will be applied to your skin. Your trained technician will glide the UltraShape transducer over the treatment area, delivering virtually painless ultrasound pulses. The ultrasound waves cause targeted fat cells to rupture, allowing fat to be removed naturally from your body. UltraShape pulses won’t cause harm to surrounding tissue, nerves or muscle, but they will eliminate targeted fat cells for good!

Eating right and working out are, of course, essential to a healthy lifestyle and sustained healthy weight maintenance, but if you have struggled with stubborn fat in your midsection or other problem areas, UltraShape may be the answer you’ve been looking for! Give us a call today for a free consultation.

Tanning: Better Safe than Sorry

Over the past couple of decades, golden skin has gone from being a summer trend to a year-round aesthetic look, with tanning salons allowing people to stay permanently bronzed even during the winter months. However, when one accounts for all the medical risks associated with tanning, it is evident that tanning is one of the most hazardous cosmetic trends you can follow.

In spite of what tanning salons want you to believe, all types of tanning contribute to the aging of your skin. Exposure to UV rays slowly destroys the fibers that keep your skin looking firm, youthful and smooth. Over time, the rays wear out the elasticity of the facial muscles, resulting in skin becoming droopy and wrinkled much faster than with the natural aging process.

Another urban myth holds that tanning beds are safe and do not pose the risk of causing melanoma, which is simply not true. Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer that appears as individual lesions on the skin, and it is positively linked to UV ray exposure, not just to sunlight. In reality, using tanning beds is worse than tanning outside, as the UV ray exposure is much more direct, concentrated and prolonged. If you have pale skin, blonde or red hair and/or blue eyes, you are at a higher risk of developing melanoma, as these are signs that your skin cells lack the protective melanin necessary to dampen the effects of ultraviolet light.

You also might hear that UV rays help keep optimal Vitamin D levels in the skin, but optimal UV exposure levels are actually much less than you might think. By stepping outside for just 10 minutes three times a week, you’ll meet your body’s demands for Vitamin D without spending a dime on tanning.

Warm sunlight against our skin may feel great, but if you are planning to spend anytime outside, protect yourself. We have a large array of superior sun protection products, including the revolutionary Colorscience Sunforgettable brush. This portable lightweight powder formula has a luxurious feeling is easy to apply, and will help you maintain beautiful youthful and healthy skin. UltraShape: The Latest in Fat Reduction Technology

The UltraShape targeted fat removal system is taking the country by storm. Over the past few months, ultrashape treatments have increased threefold from early 2015. The quick, painless, non-invasive and relatively inexpensive technology has resonated with a population that wishes to drop a few pant sizes, but does not want to commit to lengthy, risky or painful operations such as liposuction or tummy tucks.

UltraShape works with ultrasound waves, like the ones that have long been used to look inside the wombs of pregnant women, but at a higher concentration. The concentrated waves are focused to eliminate fat cells at controlled depths beneath the skin. The targeting is so accurate that it ensures no harm to surrounding cells and no skin irregularities. On average, an UltraShape session takes about an hour, and patients can expect up to a 2.5 inch reduction in abdominal size after only three treatments.

Unlike other body contouring options, Ultrashape is virtually painless for most people. Customer satisfaction for UltraShape can be seen on the popular cosmetic website RealSelf, where the treatment carries an unheard of 96% client satisfaction rating for non-invasive fat reducing procedures.

During an UltraShape treatment, the ultrasound waves work together with the body’s natural processes. The destroyed fat cells are disposed of through the same natural physiological pathways that process them during normal weight loss. This significantly reduces side effects and, paired with a healthy diet and exercise plan, enhances long-term benefits, helping you maintain a thinner and healthier silhouette for years to come. Call today to schedule a Body Contouring consultation with our experienced and knowledgeable staff.

Micro-Needling: It’s the New Thing

Automated Micro-Needling (also known as MicroPen,) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars and the improvement of skin texture, tone and color. Micro-Needling incites the creation of new collagen and elastin to give skin a more even, youthful appearance.

During treatment, a sterile cartridge with several microneedles is attached to the micropen. Then, your aesthetician will apply gel to the selected area and gently press the pen against the skin. Micro-Needling results in a controlled amount of minimal injuries to the skin that act as channels that the body fills with new collagen and elastin. Essentially, the micropen works with your body’s natural processes, so there’s no risk of any foreign substances going into your body.

Micro-Needling produces a similar result to laser skin treatments, but is much safer. By removing the laser’s heat from the equation, the procedure becomes much more comfortable for patients and reduces the risk of complications. It is especially useful for sensitive areas around the eyes and mouth, where using a laser can be difficult. No heat also means less recovery time, and most patients can start seeing the effects within the first week.

Here at Gainesville Dermatology, we are experts in this new technology offering a minimally invasive procedure that is safe and effective. With the Eclipse MicroPen™, we utilize a revolutionary cordless dermal Micro-Needling device used by skincare professionals worldwide. It can be applied on all parts of the body; face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back. Give us a call and make an appointment to experience first-hand the benefits of Micro-Needling!

Everything You Need to Know About Botox

Botox is by far the most popular cosmetic procedure performed in the United States. It’s a safe and effective prescription medication that is injected into the skin in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and frown lines, providing a more youthful appearance.

Botox is a modern procedure that was approved for cosmetic use by the FDA in 2002 after initially being discovered by scientists to treat muscle spasms. Botox contains a purified protein derived from a living organism and is considered a safe biologic product.

Often referred to as a “lunchtime procedure,” a Botox treatment usually takes no longer than 10 minutes and requires no downtime or recovery. Using a few small injections in strategic places, Botox blocks nerve impulses to the muscles in your face, reducing their movement and giving the skin a smooth and youthful appearance. The full effects of a treatment take about a week to settle in, and the degree of improvement will depend on how deep the lines are when you begin; but line reduction is certain. The effects are temporary — lasting 3 to 6 months.

Botox also has some positive long-term effects: if you start using it early enough, the restricted motion actually prevents you from getting frown lines altogether, and will stop the aging process early on. Wrinkle prevention is the key!

What Really Causes Wrinkles?

Wrinkles are ridges, creases and folds in the skin that act as the face’s way of showing our frequently used facial expressions. As the body ages, skin loses its elasticity and becomes more fragile. Wrinkles commonly occur as a result of sun damage, smoking, stress, dehydration and not removing makeup. Even some medications can aid in the production of wrinkles.

Long-term exposure to ultraviolet light (UV) can speed up the natural aging process and is the primary cause of forming wrinkles at a young age. The UV light diminishes the production of collagen and elastin fibers in the skin and results in weak, loose skin. This ultimately causes skin to sag and wrinkles to form. Even a few minutes in the sun without sunscreen can break down collagen that’s needed to help skin remain firm and protected.

Consuming unhealthy foods is another contributing factor to the production of wrinkles. The less protein consumed, the less collagen is built by the skin to sustain elasticity. Consuming unnecessary amounts of sugar and fatty foods also contributes to weight gain that causes the skin to stretch.

Gainesville Dermatology offers safe and effective Botox injections for those looking to quickly and effortlessly relax the muscles that form facial wrinkles. Botox injections are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed in the United States and is an FDA-approved method for improving unwanted facial wrinkles. Schedule an appointment today!

Why Exercise Promotes Healthy Skin

Heading to the gym every day has proven to be even more valuable than originally thought. Research has shown that exercise can not only improve your figure, mood, and self image, but can also be very beneficial for maintaining healthy skin.

When you participate in aerobic exercise and your heart rate starts to increase, more oxygenated blood is flowing throughout your muscles and skin, resulting in the post-workout glow that we all strive for. Aerobic exercise boosts blood circulation and produces natural skin oils that help moisturize the skin and leave it looking healthy.

Exercise can also help reduce and prevent the formation of wrinkles. Exercise causes increased levels of collagen to be produced, which is a protein that keeps the skin firm and youthful. Picking up a set of weights can help strengthen the muscles underneath the skin to also add to firmness.
For those who struggle with acne, exercise can be beneficial to your skincare routine. The sweat caused from exercise acts as a natural pore cleanser. Working out can also regulate hormone imbalances that can cause adult acne. Sweat purges the skin of toxins and aids in the unclogging of pores that results in acne. It is important to wash your face soon after exercising to remove the dead skin and sweat built up during your workout. For those with eczema, you should be wearing dry-fit workout clothing that wicks off perspiration to help prevent flare-ups. If you workout at a gym, bring fragrance-free face cleansing wipes with you and remember to remove makeup from your face before you hit the ground running.
